Hot rolled section steel is a steel production process in which the billet is deformed and shape corrected by rolling mill. It is one of the most important methods for manufacturing various types of steel sections. It is widely used in various fields such as construction, machinery, automobile, ship and so on. The process flow of hot rolled steel section will be introduced below.
First of all, the first step of the hot rolled steel section process is to prepare the billet. Billet is a rectangular metal billet obtained through iron ore melting, casting and continuous casting process. Before hot rolling, the billet needs to undergo surface treatment, including the removal of dirt and oxidized skin, and take measures such as descaling to ensure that the surface of the billet is smooth and clean. Next, the prepared billet is heated in a heating furnace to improve its plasticity and malleability. The heating temperature depends on different materials of billets and different product requirements, generally above 1000℃, to ensure that the billets can be smoothly plastic deformation in the rolling mill. The heated billets are then fed into the mill for rolling. The mill is the core equipment for hot rolled section steel and usually consists of a set of rolls. After entering the mill, the billet is extruded and deformed by the rolls, gradually forming the desired type and size. During the rolling process, the billet needs to be rolled continuously through several times to gradually achieve the required thickness and shape. Cooling and lubrication are also required during the rolling process. Cooling is to reduce the temperature of the billet to avoid excessive deformation due to high temperature. Lubrication is to reduce heat and abrasion due to friction. Consequently, it can protect rollers and keep surface clean. Finally, after rolling, hot rolled section steel still need further processing, including cutting, trimming and straightening. Cutting is make the long billet cut to the required length. Trimming is cut the ends of the billet. Straightening is to eliminate the residual stresses which is produced in the rolling process, so that the shape of the steel more regular.
To summarize, the hot rolled section steel process includes billet preparation, shaping, rolling, cooling, lubrication and processing steps. This process is a complex procedure that requires close cooperation of all parts and is adjusted and optimized according to different product requirements and material characteristics. Through the hot rolling process, various types of section steel can be produced to meet the requirements and contribute to the development of various industries.
